Cyclooctanes

Cyclooctane frameworks give researchers access to a larger saturated ring with more conformational freedom than classical small carbocycles. They are useful when a project wants to probe medium-to-large ring behaviour, build in extra hydrophobic surface, or approach macrocycle-like topology without committing to a full macrocyclic scaffold. This class is especially helpful for unusual alicyclic analogue design, ring-size exploration, and programmes that need a softer, more spacious carbocyclic core.
