Cycloheptenes

Cycloheptenes occupy a useful niche between flexible medium rings and synthetically versatile olefin intermediates. Compared with smaller strained rings, they offer a broader conformational envelope; compared with saturated cycloheptanes, they provide an embedded alkene that can be edited late in a route. These compounds are particularly relevant to route development, medium-ring discovery, and alkene-enabled scaffold elaboration.
