Cycloheptanes

Cycloheptane frameworks give access to medium-ring carbocycles that feel more flexible and spatially open than five- and six-membered rings. They are useful when a project wants to sample less common alicyclic space, increase hydrophobic surface area, or move toward natural-product-like ring topology without entering macrocycle chemistry. This class supports medium-ring analogue synthesis, scaffold diversification, and specialised medicinal chemistry programmes.
